THE SCIg ALTERNATIVE
Many Primary Immunodeficient (PI) patients exhibit insufficient venous access or adverse reactions to intravenous treatments thereby making them unsuitable candidates for traditional IVIg therapy. For these patients, Subcutaneous Infusion of Immune Globulin (SCIg Thearpy) offers a viable alternative because of its ability to administer controlled dosages of immune globulin (or immunoglobulin if you prefer) over a period of several hours through a small needle placed immediately beneath the skin.
The SCIg Therapy advantage lies in its ability to precisely control the amount of immune globulin released, and the time of release to the patient. Because SCIg facilitates the treatment of PI, many patients experience more stable and consistent immune globulin blood levels. Also, SCIg allows patients to be treated at home thereby reducing the frequency of necessary hospital visits and providing them the freedom to fit therapy around their daily lives reducing time away from work or school. EMED® SCIg infusion sets (also known as Sub-Q Ig infusion sets) have been engineered to optimize the subcutaneous infusion of immune globulin. They were developed with the assistance and valuable input of clinical infusion specialists resulting in a superior alternative.
Our family of SCIg infusion sets is based on various comfortable needle configurations designed to minimize patient discomfort during insertion and use, and have significant technical advantages due to the following unique features:

- Configurations: Single lumen (1), Bifurcated (2), Trifurcated (3), Quadfurcated (4), Pentafurcated (5) and Hexafurcated (6) needle sites.
- Tubing: Proprietary ultra-flexible Polyethylene tubing to reduce chemical interchange with the infused pharmaceutical .
- Needle: 27G to minimize discomfort during insertion. Available in 6 mm to minimize patient trauma; or 9 mm for patients with thicker skin.
- Needle Contour: Optimized curvature to ensure maximum flow through the needle is key to avoid occlusion when infusing viscous pharmaceutical s.
- Wing: Translucent wing facilitates insertion and provides stability for long-term use.
- Site Dressing: Hypoallergenic dressings are included with each needle site for ease of placement.
- Low Priming Volume: Reduces immunoglobulin costs and conserves a tight supply.
- One sterile package: Eliminates the need to assemble multiple pieces of tubing, adapters and needles, resulting in a decrease of potential contaminations.
- Special Accessories: Ensure compatibility with all major ambulatory infusion pumps. Special connectors, accessories or design adaptations are available for specific infusion pumps.
